My daughter passed her test last week and insured her car fully comp. She has a chip in her windscreen which she can get fixed for free but will it affect her no claims?

Assuming it is covered, most are but it must say so. The repair is usually free replacement will carry an excess of £50-£75. This will not effect NCB, it is not actually motor insurance at all it's basically a small separate policy lumped in with the main policy for convenience and of course profit.

That's what it says on the adverts for getting your windscreen chips fixed - can't she ring up her insurers and check?
Most insurance companies allow chips to be repaired under the policy with no effect on your No Claims
i am sure that the radio advert says that it doesn't for MOST insurers - might be worth checking it out with them before hand. She doesn't want to start off with a claim to her name. Well done to her btw - does that mean that she can start ferrying you about to the pub etc?
hey :o)

when I renewed my insurance they asked if I'd made any claims. I said no, and they said "you had a new windscreen 4 years ago!" I don't even remember, but I guess it counted for something with Axa.

Thanks both...it was too late to phone tonight and she was eager to know.
maybe repaired is free, replaced is a claim?

Hi Annie and Sara.....she already had ferried me to the pub..lol
Yeah, fixed has to be different to replaced.
can I ask who she insured with, and was it extortionate?
Question Author
She's with Bell and it was £1400.
Not too bad for fully comp.
okay, that's much better than some of the quotes I've seen!

good luck to her :o)

Thanks Sara.x

Thats the price is paid in full...its more if you pay monthly.
I've sen some for £2.5k plus. Think it is going to be extortionate by the time the boys are old enough to drive and I'll have 2 of them at much the same time. Boys are bound to be more expensive than girls too.

Its the same price for both now Annie.
I know they had all that new legislation regarding sexual discrimination, but I thought they would probably get round it in other ways. :o)

Cheers Geezer.
When insured in the UK I had to pay a £50 excess if it needed replacement. But in Ireland I have no excess and have had a windscreen replaced now 4 times with no excess and no loss of NCD
