The standard of HGV drivers is much superior to car drivers!
HGV drivers are trained to a much higher standard than ordinary drivers as they have to be aware that ordinary drivers do not know the room that an HGV needs on the road, especialy on roundabouts.
A lot of ordinary drivers have never driven a large vehicle and have no idea of the knowledge and experience it takes to drive one safely.
Just wait for the all the car drivers now giving their tales of bad HGV drivers soon!

I will put this in another way Rov, even now I can judge what action the car / HGV driver is going to do, I attended a drivers awareness course on a regular basis, a safe drivers awareness for Insurance purposes. I asked for the General motorist opinion on the HGV drivers driving, manner, are they curtness due to the size of the thing they are driving, regards the foreing HGVs, what sort of action would you take should you see one on either a motorway, trunk road? this comes under the awareness driving.
HGV drivers tend to be good with odd nasty ones the same as car drivers but I would say their standard of driving is better than car drivers except for passing cyclist which they don't seem to appreciate are actually moving in the same direction and the HGV goes arond them as if they were stationery and so cut in far too early. I always give them a wave when they're past. I dra car and cycle.
