I had this problem and the Garage told me yes the MOT inspector needed access to the boot
Why would they need to access the boot for an MOT test? the spare tyre is not part of the MOT and they are not allowed to lift carpets or access panels inside the boot so there is nothing of use to be seen in the boot.

there is nothing in the MOT test that means not being able to open the boot lid would make a car fail.
One of the tests is for load security. That includes testing that the boot or tailgate can be secured in the closed position
It's definitely secured in the closed position :)
Very true
I think you will find that the tyre pressure and condition of your spare is/or can be deemed to be part of the MOT. Consequently it could be necessary for the Examiner to be able to open the boot of your car; along with all other doors on the vehicle.

The condition of the spare tyre is not part of the MOT."

"If any of the following reasons apply, the test should not be carried out, the vehicle presenter informed and any fee paid for the test must be returned. It is therefore advised that ’refusal’ items are checked before starting the test.
The reasons for refusing to carry out the test are:

g. A proper examination cannot be carried out because any door, tailgate, boot, engine cover, fuel cap or other device designed to be readily opened cannot be readily opened."

OK Chuck....I acknowledge that the condition of the spare tyre is not part of an MOT. However, I feel sure you will agree that my thoughts were appropriate on the basis of it being necessary to open the boot and ABerant has produced evidence to this effect.

If the spare is in a spare wheel well, that is part of the body work & has to be inspected for corrosion. What make of car is it Joko? give out the model, year, you never know someone on here may help you get a 2nd hand one, they are not that dear from a scrappy.
beeping at you has nothing to do with right or wrong on both parties...they beeped as they could see you and you could probably stop before them, as you were just pulling away.

again go back and take the oncoming car out of the equation. You were in the wrong.

Then add them back and they too were in the wrong.

I am leaving for dinner now.
DT...Hope you enjoy your dinner and, as a dessert for us all, you come back and explain your cryptic correspondence.

Ron
He's posted on the wrong thread Ron. It should be on the one above from joko about a collision he nearly had.

sigh...dt...i was well in front of them...if id stopped theyd have been more likely to run into the back of me...

thanks ot everyone else
And if he had run into you and hit you up the rear, your boot would have got smashed, then you could have claimed for a new boot catch (and boot)....Sorry:-(
DT was on the wrong starting grid.!!

I have been known to motor in similar directions, so I do not do not have any crosswords for him.:-)
