Does anyone out there drive up and down the A3 - Surrey/Hampshire side -
and use the new tunnel on a regular basis? What I want to know is whether or not it has cut down the congestion time at Hindhead in the morning rush hour? We used to be prepared to sit in the queue for 30 to 40 minutes before the tunnel was open, but have not tried going from Petersfield to Guildford in the rush hour using the tunnel yet - we have to be in Guildford in good time tomorrow morning. Thank you.
Been through it a few times during various days a couple of weeks back although not at rush hour but surely must make the morning journey time quicker as no Hindhead traffic lights and those long queues, and must be quicker than going via Haslemere, Godalming and then on to Guildford.
I have also not heard A3-Hindhead mentioned on traffic news recently.
Used it for the first time last week. I travel from Kent to Dorset quite regularly and usually go via M25 and M3 to the M27. Using the A3 instead cuts out a big lump of the M25 between J10 and J12 (always bad). The first southbound section of the M3 is usually dodgy as well.
I sailed down the A3 with no probs in either direction (Tuesday morning and Saturday afternoon) and the additional bit of the M27 from Portsmouth to the end of the M3 was far better than the bit of the M25 i missed out.
Yes, that does cut down the mileage, and is a much nicer way. We used to live in Sutton, Surrey and my sister lives in Devon so when we went to see her we used the M3 a lot, and it was always dodgy around Junctions 4 & 5.
So we are now off to Guildford, hopefully with no delays.
