Oil Leak: Can I easily repair it?

Hi. I have a 99 Vauxhall Vectra and stupidly put a bit too much engine oil in it after doing routine checks. Since then the engine has had a slight leak. When I say 'slight' I mean maybe about 75-100ml of oil is lost when parked stationary overnight after the car has been used and the engine is warm.

It's an old car but has been quite reliable. I don't want to scrap it but it's not worth spending any significant amount of money on.

Can anyone advise on whether it can be easily (inexpensively fixed)?

Try changing the gasket or the oil seal around the sump...your local car parts shop should be able to advise you. Good luck!

Well you need to check the level first to ascertain whether it is still far too high!

A sump seal is no mean feat on those.

It would be helpful to assertain where the leak is from.

Thanks guys. The oil level is below the max level now. I don't exactly know where the leak is coming from but I've got a Haynes manual, tools and a set of ramps, so hopefully I can get it sorted because it's actually quite a good car.

Just because it leaks when drastically overfilled doesn't mean there is something wrong with it.
