I know there is a way of navigating to a planned destination without actually doing it (ie doing it on the device while stationary) but I'm f*cked if I can figure out/remember how. Please can someone enlighten me before I throw this bloody thing against a wall.

Thanks - your helpfulness exceeds your excellence.
go into itinerary planning where you can view and save details of the journey
sorry 'advanced planning', if not on main page scroll to next page...
Question Author
Thanks Emu but it's a tomTom 1,
Main menu: Navigate to, find alternative, help me, add favourite, change preferences, prepare route (didn't work), browse map (also didn't work) map corrections, tomtom services.
I'm probably overlooking something obvious within the sub menus of this page.
Is there an arrow to click from main page on to next page where you should find option for advanced planning?

Sorry if I appear pedantic Eddie51, I like maps (especially OS maps) - I use them when on foot, but technology moves on. Satnav devices can be much quicker and more convenient particularly when navigating around cities in a car and then maps become far less simpler in my experience.
can you not down load a manual from google for it
Question Author
Emu - Nope, the last time I did it it was an option that didn't use the words "advanced" or "planning" - it seems to be an option that is only available when satellites are seen (though I'm sure I've done it when they weren't).
Question Author
A manual might be a good idea thanks Kitten.
Emu - thanks again, I have a feeling somethings become corrupted in my TT, this no longer seens to be an option.
after setting the journey tap the screen so it shows navigate to / alternative /tom tom traffic , bottom right is an arrow tap that it will take you to the next screen which shows 'view route & 'browse map' is this what you are looking for ?
Do as chas2008 says and you should also see 'Show route demo' icon. This lets you see complete route as if you are on the road. You can run it at up to 400% of real time.
Question Author
That's the one ! 'Route Demo' - I don't seem to be able to get to it unless it's seeing satellites, it just stays frozen on the screen saying "waiting for a valid GPS signal".
I think there is a reset button on the base. Very small hole that you can reset with a paper clip. That may do it - but you will lose any routes you have put in previously.

Thanks for the answers, problem solved - it just needed that 'first log on' to work out where it was !
