Travellers return to Dale Farm

On the news today we saw lots of cars towing caravans back into Dale Farm as residents who had previously left in advance of the eviction decided to return following the appeal.

Would it have been a reasonable action or an unwise provocative action for the police to use number plate recognition technology on the cars as they approached the farm and to then stop any that seemed to be untaxed or uninsured?

Travellers don`t need tax or insurance....Gypsy tradition

Perhaps they hadn't evacuated earlier-they'd only nipped out to pay their council tax bills and update their TV licences so they could watch themselves on TV.
ELVIS, I know, but think that in the present situation they will need to have both, otherwise playing into the hands of the police!........

tab, easier to stay put, and rip off the local population!....
welsh, the police don`t bother with pikeys when it comes to untaxed/un insured motors

So why don't they pay to go on touring sites like the rest of us would have to?
Who would want to share a touring site with them?
Times have changed. What was acceptable behaviour 50 years ago, isn't now. They would fit in well on any chav council estate.
there seems to be a lot of stereotyping here and (although I realise this will upset people and result in abuse being thrown in my direction) as i read such comments that are appearing here it makes me compare it to certain things that were being said in Germany in the 1930s.
yes., Lankeela makes a sound point here!....if we want to park our caravan on a site we have to pay by the night, and we also pay our taxes!.....these folk pay no taxes and expect to camp for free!......not a fair deal in my eyes!....

"They don't travel as there is no where for them to go. Up to a few years back every council area had by law to provide a certain number of temporary sites for travelers. They almost all failed to do it and the law was abandoned. Nothing was put in it's place. "

I thought that land had been provided at Dale Farm for these travellers. The problem is that they then built permamnet homes without planning permission which can't be allowed to happen. Okay it wasn't a temporary site but they don't seem to want a temporary site -they want to stay now.
I`m not going to abuse you nudgescuffler, you are entitled to your opinion.

You`re right they are just good old travelling folk, living off the land following in good old gypsy tradition, they never do anything wrong and are given a bad name for no reason whatsoever
nudgescuffler?????

I didn`t type that
nudgescuffler lol........pathetic.....try to be original ...just childish

If you go on referring to pikeys ELVIS68 you may find you get on the editors naughty step list and your name will become nudgescuffler in posts!
I do agree with nudgescuffler (try again M1ckR0g) that we need to be careful with our choice of words but I'm not sure situation is getting like the Nazis and the Jews. Anyway, good night all.
mick, i dont think elvis did type that, there is a OP from nudgescuffler you may like to view it may explain things. ?
