Have just received a renewal from Saga for this year's insurance for my 6 month old smart car for £335.00, seems a lot to me. For those with smart cars, are you getting better rates than this and if so, who with.

Thanks.

That is stratospheric! (unless you have loads of claims+convictions of course)that's only £20 less than what I pay for a group 50 supercar! get on the comparison sites, pronto! SAGA are rip off merchants anyway but that's pushing it!
When Saga started flogging motor insurance for the over 50s they were competitive. Having got a customer database of folks many of whom were older and seemingly less inclined to be price sensitive, they became increasingly expensive.
Just shop around.
I occasionally check their offering but it is invariably miles away from the benchmark.
My father was with Saga for about 15 years and he always prided himself on being one of their etablished customers. He thought they would look after him on that basis but his premiums just kept going up and up. Last year he was so upset by a renewal quote of £521 for his 1995 Astra that he took my advice and looked elsewhere. He then found his present insurer (I can't remember who) who quoted him £229. My Mk2 Golf was £151 to insure Full Comp this year.

Look around Riptide. The comparison sites are very good.
Perhaps it is because it is a nearly new car. This is the only thing I can think of, other than you have convictions.
mine was about 220 (LV)

I have no convictions and I have thought recently that Saga were becoming rather expensive. I did have a small prang 3 years ago where my parking sensors did not go off and I caught someone's side door of their car, no damage to mine. As I have a full protected no claim bonus which I have built up over the years I would not have thought it would make that much of a difference. Even Mercedes Benz were £50.00 cheaper than Saga when I bought the car, but as I had several months to go on my insurance, I left it with them until renewal. Thanks for all your comments will definitely have a look around.
Aviva have just given me a good quote - they are not on the comparison sites.
I have a 2 year old Smart cabriolet..................I pay £230 fully comp with Direct Line.(I have maximum no claims)
