Banging noise from rear of Toyota Celica
Hi people, I have recently come across a really annoying problem with my Celica. Basically every time I go over the slightest bump there is an awful banging/clattering noise which comes from the rear. At first I thought it was the screw in clamp which holds the spare wheel in place because it was just rolling around in the boot. I screwed this back in however and it was still doing it. Then I thought it might have been the jack banging inside the plastic container within the boot so eventually I ended up just taking everything out of the boot, spare tyre and everything, and just did a lap around the block, but it was still doing it. The exhaust seems to be firmly in place ( although it is blowing ). It is an old car now and to be honest it could do with a major service but I just havent got the money for that at the moment. Any ideas would be most gratefully received! Thanks

I can tell you the definitive answer as I had the same problem with my Celica (ST182).
Its the rear anti-roll bar downlinks. The bushes on them has perished and allowing movement. It's simple to fix but you need a ramp. The parts should cost between £10 and £20 for both. Labour at a decent garage will be about £40.
