no, not me. I'm an excellent driver ;o)

my girlie is almost 18 and I've promised her driving lessons. wow, so expensive!

I've been told by 2 driving instructors that, at her age, she'll need about 45 lessons, plus another 20 hours in a private car (mine, I assume).

45? isn't that an awful lot?

opinions and experience, please..

I had 7 lessons before passing, about 50/50 between one hour and two hour lesson so about 21 hours.
45 is a heck of a lot.

when i learnt i had a lesson a week, probably half were 2hr lessons. I started in the october and took my test in the january, so expect i had about 25-30 hours.
Yeah....that's loads. Some people will need more than that....some much less.
Took me a lot more than that. ^^^ I'm ashamed to say how many.
45 lessons sounds like they want their moneys worth

I would go on a lesson by lesson basis with a decent driving school that has good reviews
I was pretty much the same as Red. Started in November and passed in February.
oh and i was 17, thought it was a long time ago and they do seem to have a lot of extra things to learn now.
i had loads, i don;t want to even think about how many. drivign is fine it was nerves on the bloddy test each time grrrrrrr
45? I had seven or eight, I think, a couple of hours each. (Mind you, that was back when you had to have a man walking in front with a red flag.)

Chuck, I make that 11 hours rather than 21.

thanks Chuck and Red.. so I'll block book 20, and see how it goes.

also, I don't want to take her out in my car as I don't feel I'd have enough control.
but i think they should bring in a minimum number of hours and make it mandatory to have a motorway lesson after passing before you can use them.
Am not surprised, due to petrol costs. I taught my kids & booked them 3+ pro lessons to brush up before tests.
my friends son did the theory first before he even booked driving lessons, once he passed he started having practical lessons, he said this worked well.
Question Author
sorry.. slow system at work, thanks all!

i had a lot of lessons as I was terrified.. strange, as I'm a confident driver.
You're correct, jno.... trying to do too many things at once so my maths went to bits :)
Question Author
fluff, I agree re the motorway lessons.

cazzz.. isn't there a time limit between passing your theory test and the practical?
3 years
Sara, I went with a independent instructor. After about 4 weeks he told me to put in for my test as by the time it came through I'd be ready. I think with some of the bigger firms it's just business and they want you to take as many lessons as poss.
i thought it was two? has it changed now
Just wait until you ask about insuring her on your car.

Get the smelling salts ready.
