I wouldn't touch them TeddyBoy. Tyres are the most important safety devices on the car - you can't scrimp on them. Fitting part worn tyres is as ridiculous as when people fit second-hand brake parts or shock absorbers. Part-worn tyres will have different properties to the others on the car, especially if they aren't fitted as a pair on the same axle as you should always do. There's also the fact that tyres alter in composition as they age and older tyres will not have the same properties as when they were new. The car will handle differently than when new tyres are fitted and stopping distances are also affected. The MoT test will soon fail a car with tyres that are over a certain age for those very reasons.

Provided you ask for a mid-range tyre and not something like Michelin or Pirelli new tyres are reasonably priced. If someone can't afford mid-ranged new tyres then they can't afford to own a car. Always buy new and never just change one tyre at a time -always the pair on an axle. As I said, tyres are the most important safety feature on the car - you can't penny-pinch.
No, no, no ..... try this site for reasonably priced new ones:

I wouldn't, tyres are important, they're worth spending extra on for new ones.

When I was young and stupid, I bought some worn tyres (as I also didn't have the money for new ones), a few weeks later, they blew out on me whilst driving in the country, I got stranded over night and had to wait til morning before I could get new tyres.

Long story short, always buy new tyres.
A lot off tyres go from Scandinavia to England and they are the old winter tryes which have lost the metal studs so they still have lots of tread but they are the wrong compound and as said above they are starting to perish
As my wife's mother says " Only the rich can afford to buy cheap"
I've bought them but it's very easy to get ripped off if you don't know what to look for and unless you're a boy racer then they're OK

tyres are what keeps your car attached to the road.

2nd hand ones? I don't think so!
-- answer removed --
they're not 2nd hand, they're tyres I bought (new) and have used, and haven't had cause to replace.

I wouldn't buy tyres that someone else has had cause to discard.
I have had part worns in the past, but doubt you will actually save money in the long run. You don't get as many miles as with new ones, so end up buying more tyres before long.

I now buy them here:

The only way I think you save with part worns is if you get them dirt cheap, or know that your car is going to be scrapped before too many more miles.

I think the only way you save with part worns is i
oops - ignore last line.
did Hopkirk skid off the page???
I suspect if you just tootle around town then they might be woirth considering, but I'd be loathe to risk them as I do a fair amount of motorway driving.

I never looked into the economics but figured some of the cost must be down to the fitting, and part worn ones will need replacing more often, so was there any incentive ?
You have no way of knowing how second hand tyres have been treated, they could have been kerbed, run flat or contaminated with chemicals such as solvents or fuel. By the time you have paid for fitting and balancing I doubt they are worth it on a financial basis apart from the safety issues. For driving around the country estate, probably OK.

That one was actually the cheaper and im off today to get 2 new front tyres with a lifetime punture repair/ replacement guarantee from a local garage at cheaper than the instore price. Thanks for all the advice.
Funny, that's the one I suggested.
Buy cheap, buy twice.
No, they will be below the legal tread limit in no time - false economy.
