After about 30 years of motoring I am sad to say that I am thinking of quitting it. I will miss it more of the convenience and getting to and fro very quickly from place to place

Ifeel so much responsibility because of pedestrians, my passengers, all the different signs, road rage and more more drivers. Also I take a drink and now constantly think of if I am stopped I will be breathalysed. It is all very well to say oh we wont drink to morrow - but some thing comes and you have to drive (this is a bone of contention to me) To sum it all do we all sit and not drink and wait for God Any help there. I dont need it for work.

so am I bedknobs but I do have a small drink every night but it is too much for drinking.
Question Author
bedknobs do you know what happened to bobbisox as I miss her so much
i suppose it depends on your definition of small! to me a small drink in the evenings will not affect driving the next day (but to me a small drink would be a glass of wine or a tot of whiskey). putting the drinking aside though, you are right about all the other knobheads on the road though
yes, she left :)
Connemara, I read your post and as bednobs says a small drink in the evening should not effect driving the next day. Your idea of a small drink is possibly more than my idea. What do you consider a 'small drink'
I also am thinking of giving up driving but because of the cost of petrol and insurance now, not because of drinking. I now get free bus travel and 1/3rd off rail tickets as I am a 'senior citizen' It makes train and bus travel much cheaper than using the car.
i see they are thinking of means testing the bus passes eddie
Not a problem for me I am on pension credit bednobs.
I don't like driving, I don't drive for work now, I catch the bus or the train. Gets me there in a much safer frame of mind. I've still got the car - useful for shopping, going to the vets, etc - but I don't want to drive daily any more, particularly after dark.
No, we don't sit and not drink. But if we have a drink we don't get in the car.
So what is your question ?

Is this an agony aunt site?
You have my sympathies Connemmara, I do a lot of driving for my work and I just cannot believe the number of completely selfish drivers that are on the road these days. Seriously some people get behind the wheel of a car and its like they are they only person on the road, they cannot see beyond the end of their own nose......
If you drink, you should not drive.

It's that simple.
