Car towed away from a street with no restrictions
My car was lifted by the council subcontracted company in Wildcroft Road in Wandsorth. This road has no restrictions whatsoever. A ticket on the car stated that the car was parke on the road for too long. They wouldn't give the car back from the pound as they said there were 2 previously unpaid tickets which is not true. Both previous tickets were paid & I have the reciepts to prove this. My question is: Did the council act illegally by lifting the car in an unrestricted street? What is the best coarse of action. This, in my opinion, is theft by the council. I am going into the council in the morning with previous receipts etc. Any advce is appreciated.

As far as I can tell, yes!!!
Print out this web page and take it with you in the morning. It proves (based upon Wandsworth Council's own website) that Wildcroft Road is not subject to any parking restrictions:
http://www.wandsworth.../218/parking_zones/10
If they try to suggest that Wildcroft Road must come under a neighbouring restricted area, refer them to this map which 'zooms out' from the first one:
http://www.wandsworth.../street_parking-zones
(Wildcroft Road is in the white, unrestricted, area cutting into the controlled part of Putney).

You seem to be correct in your assertion that Wildcroft Rd doesn't have any parking restrictions according to this info

I would print off and take the map with you as ammunition. Good luck.
