But could they take the engine and transaxle out of a Hillman Imp in 30 mins with a jack and a roller skate like my mate Tim and I used to?
Impressive beside the road in a foreign land!

It remind me of when I lived in Bombay for a year as a kid. Tradesmen had their regular 'spots' on the pavement beside the road. A customer would just pull up beside their chosen mechanic who would then do whatever work was needed on their vehicle beside the road! They would lay things like pistons, cranks and gearshafts out on the pavement with passers-by just stepping over everything! They always seemed to get everything back together again!

I remember my father always took us to the same barber. He was an old chap who could alwasy be found at the same spot under a tree. He just had a chair on the pavement and a mirror tied to the tree! Passers-by were all around and sometimes they stopped to watch. He always did a good job my Dad still says!

But did your Hillman Imp then have to tackle rally stages sddsddean?

Interesting, Andyvon.
True, it didn't Sceptre, but we did thrash it a bit! We had racing head, cams and exhaust and twin carbs on it. Took out most of the sound deadening material on the floor...oh and the steering king pins were seized, which meant for interesting manouvering(!). Most common fault was when we hit 90, the speedo hit the pin and the speedo cable broke! Used to love driving round in summer with the back window open. Happy days!!!
About 10 mins on Escort Mk2 rally prep car.
(Bellhousing modified for just one bolt to hold it all on)
That's cheating Albags.
I know David Sutton from years ago .. Historic Motorsport very near me.
Me too. Do you know what he's doing now?
No idea : ) I'll do some digging.
Historic Motorsport just relocated from Daventry.
Bill Gwynne another old mate.
Last time my Vectra was in for a service it needed a new headlight bulb. My mechanic was cursing the fact that it is as hard to change a lightbulb on a modern car than it was to change a clutch twenty years ago.
