Do you watch old Westerns?

Have you noticed that all the John Wayne Movies seem to have all the same hills in the background? Mind you, if you've had too many pints, the question's irrelevant but does it annoy you when you start remembering previous movie scenes?

do you mean the John Ford ones all set in Monument Valley, or the cheapie ones he did when he was really young, all filmed not too far from Hollywood? Ford went to Monument Valley because he liked it. The cheapies were filmed in California because they were cheap. He's a singing cowboy in one of them.

It's probably because most of them were filmed in the same region,Monument Valley I believe it's called, mind you it might also be the beer.

My fave old western is Big Deal at Dodge City. Brilliant.

Monument Valley's quite well known for being in Arizona (with a bit in Utah) but it stood in for Texas in Stagecoach. Not only that, the scenery at the start of the stagecoach trip is the same as at the end, making you wonder if the horses ever got out of the starting blocks.

Maybe cameras and equipment were cumbersome in those days so the cattle drive or whatever kept going through the same bit to save lugging stuff about too much.

Do you think there would have been far, far less killings in the old western towns, if they had made them big enough to accommodate everyone ?

2 Cowboys: "Go for your gun." "No, you go for your gun!" "Is said, go for your gun." (Usual tautology.) "Ok, let's settle it, now!" So they went in the saloon for a different kind of shot...red-eye, that is! Not exactly Blazing Saddles but it'll do for the moment.

I used to try and count the shots the '6' shooters fired. A lot more than six usually-especially in the tv westerns like the Lone Ranger and The Cisco Kid.
