crank shaft sensor

i had my car put on the computer, and it read the crank sensor was faulty, but how come my car is still firing, the chap at the garage was surprised by this aswell

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.As per my previous post on this subject – my OBD scanner identified the fault as being the crankshaft sensor – I replaced the sensor myself, and after clearing the engine fault code, it did not return.
It might be that certain models of car are designed to run (in limp-home mode) without a working crankshaft sensor – but I don’t know how this could be achieved, when the ECU has no input as to the rotational position of the engine parts.
