i stands for injection (fuel)
L used to stand for Luxury
SE stands for Sports Executive or Special Edition and on the Austin Metro from the late 70s/early 80s it formed part of HSE - High Sports Economy
TD usually stands for Turbo Diesel
HL used to stand for High Luxury
GT stands for Grand Tourer
GS... not sure? Grand Saloon/Sport?
I can't think of many more, as I've already mentioned, it depends on the manufacturer.
SE is also used by Audi to mean "Special Equipment"
And Chrysler (this one really is laughable) use RT to mean "Rapid Transport"...
I've got a Polo 1.4L, L being the spec rather than standing for litres. The L means I have one airbag, heated/electric mirrors and that's about it, CL would entail PS, height adjustable drivers seat, etc...
It depends who manufactures the car - is it a ford by any chance!?
