What's the point? Subaru engines are more bomb-proof than the vw engine for the beetle ever was.

Maybe cheaper in the long run to get more power from the 1.6 sub engine by chipping/skimming and fitting a better air induction system into it.

Or you may be better off trying to shoe-horn a 1.6 Honda VTEC lump in there instead.

I would have to agree, cant see any point, plus the mechanical complications feel enormous to me, surely nothing would line up in the engine bay, the scoob is FWD and the bug is RWD, I guess you could just rip out all the scoobs water cooling system, rad etc, but even with a turbo I cant see the bug engine being that much more powerful than the original, and as I said, it sounds like an awful lot of hard work. You would probably need to alter the front suspension, maybe the anti-roll bar etc as well, to make the thing handle, as the weight distribution over the front wheels would be altered.
Why not just buy a Scooby Turbo and save a whole load of work and end up with a better car at the end.
Are both engines flat engines?  Think they are aren't they?
