AH, when I first learnt to drive, about 40 years and half a million miles ago, defensive driving was in vogue so I still try and drive defensively. When driving in multiple traffic lanes I always make sure that there is a space on the inside lane next to me whenever possible. I also leave enough room in front of me for another car to dodge in if need be, OK people take...

Could be :-( but tbh, I don't drive very much anyway these days - if I go anywhere, I take the train.
Pattern emerging here

Females
No that's me hc if it's a country lane.
Why is Yoda asking questions in Motoring?

No motorway driving doesn't bother me at all, same as any other sort of driving. I've drove for a living for far too long for anything to worry me.
Traci66 You're right. Don't forget the other country hazards: horses, cows, flocks of sheep, tractors, etc. Give me a motorway any day. (Except spagetti junction or M25).
Isn't it mainly men on the thread though, Joe? Out of the 4 (that I know are female) 2 said they were okay with it.
I know lots of females that I would quite happily be a passenger with in any circumstances, equally I know a lot of men that I would really rather not get in a car with because they scare me.

The above statement could also be reversed and still be true. the myth that all woman are crap drivers and all blokes are great drivers is a load of rubbish normally put round by insecure males.
No dont mind the motorways at all. Think when you pass you should get straight on them or have motorway lessons, so the nerves dont have time to set in.
No one here said women were crap rivers etc, many do lack confidence though
So do men...but they hide behind bravado.
To get onto a motorway safely if the traffic is to fast for you to accellerate up to it's speed on the slip road, you can use the hard shoulder as an accelleration lane.
How else can you drive 500-600 miles in a day, save fuel and tyre wear, be safer and not have to stay in a hotel overnight?
I lack confidence on motorways so don't drive on them. Otherwise I am a confident driver but can't park for toffee (although I do have a huge car).
Crap rivers lol.....here's the missing 'd'

Fair point ummmm
You don't have a speed limit on the motorway do you?
no, though the spectre of ABers whizzing by on both sides at 90mph, on the grounds that the law doesn't apply to them, does give pause for thought.
One of my pet hates is people that drive down slipways onto a motorway at 40MPH and then slow down at the bottom while checking if it's safe to join, a sliproad is for getting up to the same speed as the traffic already on the motorway so you can merge safely.

Similarly there is a stretch of road near here where it's a single lane 60MPH road with a turning to the right, in the middle of the road there is a filter lane for people taking the right turning. It always amazes me the amount of people that nearly come to a standstill while still in the middle of the 60MPH main carriageway and then pull over into the filter lane at the last second..... just get over and slow down once you're over!
Well I'll up the statistic - I'm very confident in the car and on motorways. I'm not sure I could survive if I had to avoid motorways.
I am a confident driver and the only 'nervous' passenger I have is my daughter, but only because she thinks she is a better driver than I am.
One of my pet hates is people who can't turn right properly, eg, don't move far enough over and block the whole road causing traffic to back up behind them.
That too, traci...

they tend to wait to the last second then pull over so they leave the car at 45degrees with the rear end sticking into the main flow of traffic! grrrr.... just get over and get your car paralleled with the road!
