Car Rental without credit card

Does anyone know of a car rental firm that you can pay with debit card or cash? I may need to hire a car in the next day or two, but I don't have a credit card any more.

Enterprise take debit cards I'm sure (or they used to a couple of years ago)

Hertz and Avis certainly do; I use mine with both; don't know how you get on if you hire something expensive, because the companies like to see two cards for such cars, but everything else is straightforward with just the debit card.

With a debit card they tend to take a security deposit which remains blocked for about a month. You have to get your bank to release the funds once their transaction is completed.
