I have used them in the past and they are a complete useless shower who do their best to rip you off. A mate of mine went in for a tyre and they changed all his brakes and tried to charge him £700, because they where "dangerous" - he made them change them back!
In my experience Kwik Fit do not just 'change brakes' (whatever that means) without actually showing the customer what the problem is and giving a quote before doing the work. £700 for replacing the entire braking system, pads discs, callipers, pistons, pipes, all cylinders, servo etc, etc, may be quite reasonable.
Well, to ease your impatience, here goes !
I've used KwikFit many times for numerous cars and have generally been satisfied with the quality of service they provide. They have never done any work without my permission and have always called me into the workshop to show me what they think needs doing and why - leaving the option to me. I do know quite a bit about cars and could tell if they were trying to pull the wool over my eyes. I'm a bit too old now to change my own pads, discs, exhausts etc, by the way.
I always get my MOTs done at my local KF and on more than one occasion they've replaced a blown number plate bulb free of charge rather than fail the vehicle. Once they even fitted an exhaust clamp to secure the pipe loosened by a weld break on a VW Polo - again FOC.
When a coil spring failed just inside the guarantee period they replaced it without any fuss, as you would expect.
I can't compare costs because I've never asked other garages for their price for the same job.

Well It's good they have at least one satisfied customer. I've heard a lot of horror stories and they've featured on watchdog type programs in the past. Maybe the ones round here are different but there are several examples of them doing work without being asked the one with the brakes is 100% true as it was an elderly friend of mine who was steward of a club I go to. The kwik Fit was opposite our club so he came back saying what had happenned and he said he didn't have the money, (incdentally, yes,£700 isn't too bad to change disc and pads all round, but it is if it's not necessary). We advised him to give them the choice, donate them or put the old ones back, they did the latter after initially refusing both options, when the customer offered to sign a disclaimer.
A female friend of mine went in for a tyre and they tried to tell her the exhaust was knackered, that is until she produced one of their own life time guarantees for the exhaust they fitted 6 months ago!
You must have the the Saintly version round your way, round here they're a bunch of rip off merchants that's stitch up their own granny for a fiver!

Having a car from Motobility, I have to use the recommended dealers and for tyres it's KF and I must admit to generally having no complaints, how ever the last time was different. I got a puncture quite late in the day, about 16.00hrs and wanted the tyre changing asap as we were going out next day. Fitted the tyre, one of those get you off the motor way ones while Trish checked on line what time they closed (18.00hrs). So off I went arriving at the local KF at about 16.45 to find the work shop totally empty and all the staff sat about drinking tea to be told by the guy in charge that it was nearly closing (there was only an hour to go) and could I come back next day a twenty mile round trip. After spending maybe half an hour arguing I only got my tyre changed after I threatened to contact the Motobility people. For all the time we were arguing when they all got together it only took 5 minutes to do the job.
