I have a 2l auto turbo, recently when accelerating, say from 30 to 60mph, the rev counter goes up to 4000 and then takes a few seconds to drop back to 2000, this is a recent thing and was wondering should I get it looked at, is it likely to be anything major or can I just ignore it? Thank you.

Traci, not 100% sure but sounds like something to do with your auto gearbox. When was the last time it was serviced ?. Check the gearbox fluid level, the gearbox fluid should be Red in colour.
Question Author
Last serviced in April, full service done, will check the fluid tomorrow and get back to you, thanks.
Okey Dokey.

Tony, is it the container on the right just behind the battery, that is the only thing I can see with red fluid, if it is that it is slightly low, what do I need to put in there? Thanks Traci.
Traci, that sounds like your coolant container. It should be looking for a dip stick that is actually on the gear box.
Question Author
How would I get to that?
Traci, do you know where the gear box is ?.
Question Author
Maybe I should wait until son in law gets back from the caravan next week and ask him to check for me. :0)
No disrespect to you Traci, but that might be a good idea. York is to far for me to drive lol.
Question Author
Thank you Tony.
No probs Traci.
Just had a thought, on the automatic version of my car there is no dipstick, as your car is the model before mine there may or may or may not be a dipstick.
Question Author
So if there's no dipstick it's a garage job then?
Not necessarily Traci, if there is no dipstick there will be two plugs on the gearbox, a drain plug and a level plug. To check the condition of the gearbox fluid undo the drain plug until the fluid starts to run out a bit ( catch this fluid in a container ) and check the condition of it. If it is no good then it will all have to be drained of. then replace the drain plug and remove the level plug and refill the gearbox through the hole until the new gearbox fluid starts to run out of the hole, replace the level plug and job done.
