I saw a car yesterday with an unusual front numberplate (I didn't see the rear one). There were four digits (no other characters), silver on a black background and it was not of the reflective sort.

Does one of our islands still have such plates?

Many thanks.

Pre 1973 reg'd cars can use those plates anywhere in UK
the number is from Guernsey, the style of plate can be used pre 1973 as baldric says but not the style of number.
