Need to buy Halogen heater for my brother who has no central heating.
Looked at Argos - what is difference from 1.6kw and 1200w (I think that is right) - is one hotter than the other - quick thanks
I wouldn't get a halogen heater for heating a room. they don't heat the air at all, they heat objects in front of them... they are also the biggest fire risk of any electric heater.
I use a 2kw (2000 watt) halogen heater to take the chill off my conservatory (for the plants) and that is just about all it does. No good for a room heater IMO.
I have a small halogen heater that I keep for emergencies, the heat is instant, but as others have said you need to sit quite near to it to get the benefit. They are also very bright & can give off a bit of a glare.
As Chuck has said, a halogen heater is not a good choice - it's a radiant heater that you need to be near. Also, you need to go for a more powerful output - at least 2 or 2.5 kw. I'd go for an oil-filled radiator- more expensive to buy, but a lot better for your purpose.
