Wheeler Dealers
Mike bought a Peugeot 205gti in this episode, and whilst driving it back to Ed his mechanic, the car started belching out clouds of smoke.
A sloppy gear linkage was repaired and Ed stated near the end of the program that repairing the linkage had cured the smoking.
I am not a mechanic but, I cant see how an external repair not connected in any way to the engine, can cure a car not to belch smoke.

Edd China is actually a top mechanic and does know his stuff (mike brewer needs a punch in the face or two!)
It's a TV program, this car was covered on various other forums quite extensively and it seems it had a cracked block that was sorted but that bit was "edited" out for the TV program.

I do agree, Douglas, the program is stupid because they don't take labour into account.
Edd hold several world records for his creations though :)

The premise of the program is that the work is to be done by a home enthusiast. It's patently obvious that most of the repairs would lose money if true commercial rates were factored in. Far from "stupid" I find it a very informative and useful program and Ed has certainly inspired me to do jobs I would never have attempted before.
