Timing Belt

Taking my 57 Fiat Grand Punto in tomorrow for a new timing belt as it is now 5 years old.It has always been looked after by a very good local garage,I'm told it doesn't need the tensioners replacing which makes it easier on the pocket. I'm just wondering how they know the tensioners are ok,could it be its low milage 12700mls. For info replacement belt is £130 + vat.

Could be they have said that due to it's low mileage, but it is common practice to replace the tensioners at the same time as the belt also the water pump if that is driven by the timing belt.

The reason for changing the water pump is if you had a problem with it ( which is fairly common ) then they would have to take your timing belt off again to replace it.

tonyav is correct.

Not only would they take the timing belt off to replace the water pump they would not put the old timing belt back on. They would fit another new one.
