On wimp.com there are video clips of a women operating a remote control to send her car into a car park where it finds a space and parks itself automatically.
When she wants it to come out she operates the remote control and the car obediently returns.
Another, more important, device shown is a lorry fitted with an automatic braking system which causes it to stop before it crashes into the vehicle in front.

Why not just park the car herself?

If the driver was watching the road surely he would be able to stop his lorry? what about the traffic behind him - if it stops so suddenly there will be a futher pile up behind the lorry?
i have to admit to being a tad disappointed that you couldn't get auto parking retrofitted on the merc i bought last year
In an ideal world eh, where accidents never happen.

If the lorry failed to stop before it crashed, then when it crashed it'd stopped suddenly anyway, and in any case, the traffic behind has their own responsibility not to crash into it.
Here is Volvo proudly showing its new auto brake system off to an eager press pack.
