How much does it cost for me to make a journey but not sure how to do it.
Any help appreciated and I know you might ask questions about type of car, engine size etc but all I can tell you is it's a Kia Venga Automatic and I've no idea of the size of the engine so please don't ask me that.
I buy unleaded petrol from Tesco but I've no idea how much it costs for a gallon.
I really don't know (and I am a bit ashamed) basic things I should know about cars. I have a car I get in and drive and that's it. If the petrol is getting low my daughter takes it to the garage to put petrol in and I give her between £20 and £40. I can tell you though that the journey is approx 42miles.
to make an approximation we REALLY need to know how far you plan to go
Engine size would be helpful, as would whether it's motorways or winding country roads
well as i was the first one to go out on a limb i'm willing for other people to contradict me! My car is a 1.5 auto and if i'm driving really carefully i can get around 40mpg out of it
Taking the worse case scenario MPG from the Kia website of 34MPG on a 1.6 auto and using £1.33 as the cost of petrol I come up with £7.56 for a 42 mile journey, with a little bit of rounding up going on.
You will have a mileage recorder near the speedometer that can be set to 0. If you then fill the tank with petrol. Set to 0. Note how many litres you have put in the tank. When the tank needs filling again see how many miles you did on a tank of petrol. Say it was 400 miles and the capacity was 50 litres you would know you have done 8 miles to a litre. If you know the price per litre and the distance of your journey you can calculate a fuel cost.
The mileage rate which the Inland Revenue recognises as having no profit element, and therefore does not have to be declared as income, is (was?) 40p per mile. I think I noticed a recent news item that it was going up to 45p per mile. That includes everything - fuel, tyres, road tax, insurance, servicing, depreciation.
