Does anyone know if there is a website that you can go on to check up whether a certain car has insurance on it or not?
Or is there anywhere that you can ring for this sort of information?

Thanks Chris, I knew i could rely on you for an answer or a suggestion. X
I will take a look now.
Make sure that you read and understand the Data Protection Declaration and Vehicle Ownership Statement on the website. The site is not there for you to check up on cars willy nilly.

The fine is up to £5,000.
How often is it applied TCL?
The £5,000 limit is for a Magistrates'Court and for a Crown Court it's unlimited. I have heard the Information commissioner saying a few times that the fines imposed have been low and I had a quick look and even in cases involving repeated access or selling information, they have attracted fines of a hundred to five hundred pounds.
I somehow doubt that any of those were for a sneaky look at MID, especially as you can see the same information for a £4 fee.

It wasn't to check up on people willy nilly, just to check on one car, my step-sons.
His employers paid his car insurance and let him pay them back monthly out of his wages, but I was very sceptical, or to just be blunt, I doubted that they had paid it and didn't trust them, wanted to check up and see if the car came up as insured.
