a 15W40 either diesel or petrol, a Shell Helix or Helix diesel will do you perfectly well - depending where you live change at 12000 miles or once a year if on relatively flat terrain, 8000 miles or once a year if in the Highlands or Lakes. Avoid synthetics or semi-syns as they are too thin for your seals.
we don't have the climate here in the UK to justify 5W, Chuck, low-end gel point is around - 25C for that.......therefore, a waste of £.
p.s. 30 is right - handles up to circa 34C no problem, no deterioration and vaporisation of the lub on the top end.
