wing mirrors
My drivers side wing mirror is causing me grief. First someone knocked it off, fortunately didn't seem to damage it too much and a strong man wedged it back on for me but not quite properly. It has lasted 6 months then it popped off as I was driving (slowly thank god). With a bit of strength and a lot of gaffer tape it is hanging on but I think important bits are now snapped and the heat melts the gaffer tape if I park in the sun! I really can't afford to get it replaced at a bodywork shop; is this something I can do myself if I buy the unit from a breaker's?

That should give you a good idea of whether your up to it or not.
If not get the mirror anyway and a copy of the yellow pages and ring a few small independants or mobile mechanics and tell them what you've got and ask them how much to fit it.
Probably charge you about an hour's labour say 50 or so depending on where you are in the country.
For goodness sake don't go near a main dealer or you'll need a mortgage.
