I recently encountered a young woman ( I won't say lady) who was using her mobile whilst driving, I gestured to her with my thumb in ear & little finger to mouth ( demonstrating using a 'phone) & shook my head. This is the answer I got. http://tinypic.com/r/j8dw7c/5

So you made her take both hands off the wheel?
Don't you just wish you were in an unmarked police car??
And of course if your gesturing to her had distracted her or you and someone had run over a pedestrian you'd have taken respionsibility wouldn't you?

What's next? are you going to drive up beside people driving at 80MPH on the motorway and signal for them to slow down?

Maybe leave notices on cars illegally parked?

Jake I don't remember saying that at the time I was driving, in fact I was crossing a pedestrian crossing. I can see from the answers I've received that you guys don't approve of somebody pointing out lawbreakers, so I won't bother in future.

I'm actually surprised she saw your gesture. Most of the time they are so engrossed in their conversation that aliens could land next to them and they wouldn't notice. Maybe you should have pulled your pants down and mooned at her instead.
From the answers WR has received it appears that you all approve of driving and using a phone at the same time. How very strange. I hope they don't run down a member of your family.
Well said,Jeza,it really gets my goat as well.
I think people just disapprove of the method it was brought to her attention. I'm going to sit on the fence -- but may have been a good idea to note her registration number.
How did you get from seeing someone in a car to finding that photo (which is clearly not spur of the moment or driving related)?
There's never a copper around when you want one!
I am with Jeza and whiskeryron on this one, not just mobil phones but the standard of driving/attitude has really declined
That is disgusting behaviour. I'm only a learner (still) but when I have my lessons I leave my phone at home and when I am out for a lesson with a friend I have my phone but he has it. I wouldn't even consider using my phone when I drive. I hope she gets caught and sharpish!
I'm with WR on this one
good on you, WR. People have no sense these days
That photo is obviously not a person in a car.
hc, I think that photo is just to gie you the gist of the response of the moron....sorry, driver
*give*
Indeed magicmick. It's not holding the phone, it is the attention being diverted from the act of driving to the conversation. Often I am behind a car that is weaving around and driving extremely slowly and I can see the driver is heavily engrossed in a conversation with the passenger, taking their eyes off the road to look at the passenger during the conversation. The act of driving is maybe 4th or 5th in the list of things to concentrate on at that point.

I tried using hands free for my phone and after a great deal of swearing I managed to bluetooth my blackberry to my car. Complete waste of time. When giving my driving the necessary concentration all I could manage on the phone was the odd Neanderthal grunt.
We had a serious problem with HGV drivers of landfill trucks using mobiles as they passed through our village - the theory was that they were calling ahead to say that they were just about to arrive at the (temporary) landfill site. Very dangerous as they were passing a school and a pub car park at the time.

We solved it ... all it took was a couple of residents, in Hi-Viz jackets, standing at the side of the road holding some equipment (actually a very old hair-drier) and making notes in a book.

Suddenly the drivers had both hands on the wheel ...
The result of people driving and texting (the driver of the red car was texting and pulled out in front of the motorbike)
