Missing Registration Document
My son bought a car six months ago and he has only just noticed tax ran out on 30Jun (yeah I know). Obviously he will not drive until tax is paid. I'm sure it will be sorted. Problem is the regn document was never received by him and DVLA say it is still registered to the dealer. They say he can have a new one in his name for £25. I find it a bit odd that they are willing to do this just on his say so. I know it is the new owners responsibility but has anyone any experience of this situation? Should the dealer have been alerted when they received the renwal notice?

Section 3 on the form ask why you don't have the V5. You then can take this form and the green slip and all the other parephenalia and get it taxed.
It's quite common for a seller to not bother sending off the main V5 when they sell he car.

hi I had same problem at start of month , if he has the tear of part of the log book given to him by the dealer he bought it off the new log book will be sent out free. if he don t have the tear off piece he will have to pay 25 quid and dvla will contact previous owners about sale before sending him a new book , not a problem if he seen the full logbook being filled in at sale and signed by both parties
