Turning Off Battery Radios!

We have just bought a very nice Bush radio which we want to run mainly off batteries because the mains socket isn't near where we want to use the radio. It works fine with batteries but there doesn't seem to be any way of turning the radio off completely without opening it up and removing a battery!!. Surely, there must be a way of switching off the batteries usage without this draconian step? Can anyone advise please. The radio is a Bush Arden, and for the price it's a very good radio indeed - apart from this quirk. I would ask the manufacturer but as it is now Argos, I don't think I would get much joy!!

I am taking you bought it from Argos - of course Argos would help you very much - bring it back or ask them where the on/off switch.

Have you looked closely barry? There must be an on/off/power switch somewhere.

On the front there is a power button, top row, first button. What does this do?

also look on sides of radio - they are giveaways and believe it or not try bottom - try feeling four sides of radio.

Wow! What a good response to my question.
SlackAlice: - The power switch on the front just toggles between standby and full service. It doesn't actually switch the thing off, even when connected to the mains.

Everyone: - I had already looked all over the radio of course, and there are no switches other than the ones on the front, not even in the battery compartment.

Maybe the battery power is required to keep the Stations memory.

Standby will probably keep the time and date going, plus the station list, with minimal current draw. If you don't mind resetting them every time then the only answer is to remove a battery and unplug.

Wouldn't bother myself, too much faffing around ☺☺☺

Looked at your photo Barry - and I too have DAB - digital. (not the same as yours tho) I do use mine near sockets so never use batteries but understand your frustration that if it is batteries - there is probably nowhere to turn it off completely (it still lights up) resulting use-up of your batteries. I am afraid it is to turn off is to take even one battery out.

Batteries for a digital radio don't really be strong enough. anyway good luck.

Does it switch off if you hold power button down for a couple of seconds rather than just clicking it?

I have an Aldi DAB radio - because the clock is constantly on, batteries die within 24 hours.

Its currently sitting on a table - can't remember when I last used it, as the radio station I'd listen too is not on our multiplex - only on FM

Thank you everybody for all your answers. It looks like we will be doing a little readjustment to our kitchen shelving system so as to accommodate the radio near a power socket. Modern technology eh??!! But thanks for your inputs - much appreciated. Barry
