Tyre Fitters - A Short Rant

Why oh Why oh Why ...

... do all tyre fitters, everywhere, assume that all car tyres should be inflated to 32psi.

Once again the idiots at my local place have inflated a new tyre to this pressure - they do this every time, even if I specifically tell them the correct pressure. They've compounded the error this time by also letting down all my other tyres to the same incorrect 32psi.

It's wrong and it's not rocket science to get it right either - there's a socking great sticker on the B pillar of my Saab saying "35psi all round" (with an extra couple of psi in the rears if heavily loaded).

I'm not 'naming and shaming' - it wouldn't be fair - every tyre place does the same ... but it still makes me cross.

odd, I have a few left handed frenz
and when we go to any pizza hut or any up market restaurant
we lay the table leftie

and it drives us all crazy when the waiter tries to re-lay it.

Its a quality of life issue.....

I get my tyres changed by the main dealer and they match prices to the regular outfits. They inflate the tyres to the correct pressure and always balance with the correct type of weight.

That's a good policy for routine replacements McMouse - when there's no time pressure and the garage can get the right tyre in stock ready for you.

But after a puncture there's not usually much alternative (for relatively exotic cars at least) to a trip to a big tyre place.

My local fitter always asks me what tyre pressure do I want. He will also price match if possible.

I'm afraid I'm not too fond of tyre fitters myself,since I had a puncture a few months back.As it's a motability car I had no choice as to who I used,Kwik Fit, so I checked on the time the local one closed,18.00hrs and being as it was only 16.00 off I went using one of those get you to a garage tyres.On arriving at the garage the place was cleaned up and empty with no sign of life as all the staff were laid about drinking tea. When I appeared I was told that they were closed,I then pointed out a sign giving the hours and I was then given a load of bull Sugar as to why they couldn't do the job and could I come back tomorrow a return trip off of 20 miles.It was only when I told the that we'd see what Motobility had to say and got my phone out that they got off there arses and did the job which took them about 10 minutes after nearly 40 minutes arguing.If I didn't have too I wouldn't go back to Kwik Fit if I was going to get paid to use them.

At least you get psi. My Skoda has a helpful sticker too, but it's only in bar !
