Which is the better route this weekend? The M6 toll or the M6?

I'm going north sometime between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday .

M6 toll is supposed to be much better, although I have not used it, I just pass it now and again.
You would save a bit of time if you use the M6 toll, Maydup.
Forgot to add, it aint cheap.
It's also a bit longer, so you might not save fuel.
It depends whether time or cost is more important to you.

Ahh, yes. I'm looking for the fastest/least busy route and wanting to avoid any known roadworks. Not too worried about the fiver fee.
Then the Toll road will be quicker for you then, Maydup.
Plenty of road works going on in the Birmingham area of the M6 at the moment, Maydup.
Walked every so..ing mile of that Toll road.
LOL, but it was worth it, Daisy.
You reckon? Wet through, carrying ranging rods, paid peanuts.
Mmmmm, seeing has you put it like that Daisy, no I don't.

Thanks Tony, the toll it is.

What did you do and why Daisy?
I was field walking the route to see if there were any sites of archaeological interest before the area was developed. Working with my now SiL for The Oxford Archaeology Unit.
Bit odd disappearing with daughter's boyfriend each Monday morning and returning on Friday evening. There were five of us doing the work, staying in B&Bs.
Actually fun but hard work. Was doing it the summer I was made redundant rather than sit at home being miserable.
This might help, Maydup:

My journey got me to the Birmingham area around 5pm on a Friday evening. I took the advice and used the Toll Road (think it cost about a Fiver but it may have increased). Best fiver I ever spent. Some of my friends who also made the journey north (we were attending a funeral early the following day) used the normal M6 and were caught in horrendous traffic. I sailed through. An added bonus is the service area at the north end of the toll road is quite pleasant and not too busy so we spent the time we saved having a break and a coffee.
Sorry, I travelled on a Thursday, maydup (the funeral was on Friday). But the traffic on the free road was still horrendous !

Daisy, I will think of you walking when I am driving!

thanks New Judge, I will look out for the service station too, we'll need tea by then.
Fame at last! Thanks Maydup. Have a good journey.
The services are right by a place called Chasewater, Maydup.
