If your post relates to how much tax you'll get refunded when you return a part-used tax disc, you get each full month's unused tax refunded to you. However if you bought a 6-month disc you don't get back any part of the additional fee that you paid to use that option (rather than buying a 12-month disc).
As an example, let's assume that you paid £240 for a 12-month disc and that you return it with 2½ months of validity on it. Each month cost £20 (i.e.£240 divided by 12) and there are 2 full months left, so you get a refund of £40. (You don't get anything for the half month. There are no administration fees taken out of the refund).
However if you chose to buy a 6-month disc for the same vehicle you would have paid £120 + 10% = £132. That ten per cent is 'lost' (i.e. you can't get any of it refunded). If you return the disc with 2½ months left on it you'll still get £40, as above.
