Cilla Is Very Shocked Apparently
Its being reported in the press today that Cilla is shocked over the allegations about Cliff Richard. Her exact words, according to the Guardian are ::
" I, like everyone else, was very shocked to hear of these allegations and I am absolutely positive that they are without foundation "
Leaving aside the allegations themselves, isn't this almost word for word what she said after Rolf Harris was convicted ? I am wondering what she said when she first heard about the entirely disgusting J. Savile ?

jno - "What struck me about him was how many people said - after the event, mind - that they always thought there was something fishy about him."
I think anyone with even a passing personal aquaitance of Jimmy Saville would conclude that he was a seriously odd person - but that in itself is not a crime, nor is it an indication of criminal behaviour.
So it seems perfectly reasonable for people to be wise after the event - which is common in almost any circumstance.
I remember as a twelve-year-old visiting the station master at a local village station where by grandmother lived - he was a friend of hers. One time i called and he was on holiday, and I asked for a glass of water from the guy filling in - I had cycled eight miles and it was a hot day. I remember thinking he had strange eyes, a rather intense stare.
A year later, he got life for shooting four French campers as they slept in their tent, it seems they had 'looked at him in a funny way' in the pub earlier in the evening.
I remember thinking about his odd eyes - but that was in no way an indicator that he was a sociopath - but as i said, it's easy to see these things with hindsight.

This is what she actually said about Harris.

She has known Cliff for many years and has chosen to support him......like many people on here who don't have the advantage of 'any' acquaintance with him.
As regards to her thoughts on Savile......I'm not sure she has said anything publically about him.

i think it is perfectly reasonable that people who have known Cliff for a long time and are close friends, would support him - that is what friends do.
Of course, with hindsight, their support may prove to be misplaced, but that doesn't invalidate that support at the time it is offered.
We all believe we know people, some people very well, but anyone has the capacity for a deep disturbing and well hidden 'other side' - Rolf Harris and Jimmy Saville are not unique in that.

Tora - "Though why are accusers now comming out of the woodwork?"
Perhaps an unfortunate choice of phrase - it seems to imply that people are jumping on a bandwaggon for fianancial or attention-seeking ends.
I think the thread that runs through all these cases is that people either have come forward, and not been believed, or, in keeping with the awe of celbrities and famous people in years gone by, they have not come forward, convinced they would not be believed.
I think a lot of victims have been without a voice for far too long, and are now able and if not exactly willing, have come forward to tell their stories.
