I have just discovered my windscreen seal appears to be lifting in one corner - is this necessarily a garage job ? thank you

Hi there: Dry it off best you can (borrow the wife's hairdryer if need be) and get a suitable silicon in there quick! Can't recommend a particular brand; am not familiar with what's available these days (live abroad in darkest Africa) ... I'm sure your Halfords ... or similar, will be happy to oblige! Speaking of Halfords, does anyone remember Silver Knight oil they sold back in the 60s ... kept my '37 Ford 10 running beautifully; just as well on apprentice money! Take care

thank you Linotype for the tips - I also lived in darkest Africa (for 25 years) where abouts are you?
When I was a child (in the 50s)my Dad used to make me chew black Sambo chewing gum(obviously no longer available for many reasons ). When I had chewed it until it was 100% tasteless, my dad would spread it out over the seal area. It worked !

It seems that nowadays we have to have specialist equipment and products to mend the simplest of things doesn't it? Can't use the gum idea so will stick with the silcon -(literally) :-)
RSVP.....as cars age sometimes the seals start to perish, if thats the case then they will need replaced eventually. If not then they may just have come free a bit. You may be able to reseat them with a little persuasion.

I didn't suggest this but ... if you found a crack in the glass you could get a new screen fitted on your insurance but check your policy.
