Hi - yesterday I had the glow plugs replaced on my Polo (local garage not main dealer) and was presented with a bill for 110.45.  I protested and they knocked 20 off but I am still wondering if I've been ripped off.  Can anyone confirm what is a fair price? Not sure if I'm being over cautious but you hear so many stories about lady motorists being ripped off!

Depends how long they took.  Labour is charged by the hour, for whole hours (5 minutes work still costs one hour's labour), and labour is about 30 to 80 per hour depending where you go.  And VW glow plugs aren't cheap either.

Yes they are

1998 Polo TDI

Glow plugs 6.50 + vat each so 30.48 inc for a set of 4

Thats say 100% mark up + 50 an hour labour charge for fitting I'd guess

Not that it should take more than 30 minutes to fit but let's be generous and assume they're adding in the time it took to diagnose the problem
