Do digital odometers on Ford focus's display more than 100000 miles?
I have seen a focus im interested in with a reading of 46000 but on an 51 plate.
Could it mean that its been round the clock? seems extremely low for the year.
Thanks

My 03 Mondeo has just got to 101,000. I bought it at one year old and with 12000 miles. That does seem very low mileage on the Focus, though, for a 51 plate.

I sold an 04 plate car last year with 27000miles recorded...it was genuine - I had owned the car from new (over 9 years) and had service records and petrol purchase record to prove it. I would request similar proof before becoming too interested! (Re Methyl's comment - the car I sold had just been used twice a week...the rest of the time it was garaged).
It could be genuine but is more likely to have been round the clock. my FIL hardly ever drove his Fiesta. it will have had about 10 mots. each one should have the mileage. could be fakes but they might give you a clue as to who did the servicing and it may be on their computer. even with that 'low' mileage it will have had some some new parts every year like oil and filters and which will be on record. dont be embarrassed to ask questions and walk away if no evidence.
most modern cars have 6 digits, check this one for example:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-Ford-Focus-1-8TD-Ghia-5dr-/151473824146?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item23448b2192
check the old MOTs to see if the mileage is feasable, also as methly suggests check the age of the tyres eg if they look new but are old then they can indicate low recent mileage, se no 8 here:
http://www.northstaffstyreandbattery.co.uk/tyre_markings_stoke_on_trent_5.html
also check for obvious signs of clocking, eg worn pedals, door hinges, shiny steering wheel etc. It is quite feasable that it's been low milage. Check the service book and any paperwork for cambelt change, dip the oil to see how clean. Do all the usual checks of course also.

Thank you guys for all your advice, it all very helpful.
Much appreciated for taking the time to answer.
How can the mileage on any vehicle be truly guaranteed with so many mobile mileage correction services in business? You really need to see a full service history [ideally from a franchised dealer] and all the old MOT certificates to support the mileage you see on a speedometer. I suspect that clocking is still fairly common in the trade. For example, I recently part ex'd a low mileage 2003 car with c.41,500 on the clock, yet a few weeks later it appeared on an ebay dealer advert with a photo of the speedo at 39900 and the description stating that it was an under 40,000 mile car.
If you can get a look at the registration document you can then go to this website:

http://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECHID-Internet-History-Request.jsp

which gives the total MoT history of the vehicle, including recorded mileage at each MoT.
Barney If this will help, Check the Seat's / Belts for wear, check the pedal rubbers, the steering wheel / Gear Stick condition, the Driver Side carpet, the Instep on the Drivers Side, these are indicators to a keen eye for a used car, as said if in doubt " Walk Away" there are plenty of car's out there.
