Wiring A Light Switch

Stupidly, I thought I could replace a light switch. But the new one is different from the old one. So, here's the ideal scenario.

1. I clearly describe the switch and the wires, and

2. Some clever person tells me in simple, mickey mouse language, which wires go into which screw hole.

Other scenarios, like the one where I

1. Get electrocuted, and

2. Die ...

... are a bit less desirable.

So, here we go.

The room:

There are two lights. One on the ceiling, and one on the wall. On the wall beside the door is a single plates, with two switches. One switch is for the ceiling light, and the other is for the wall light.

There are no other switches to control either of the lights.

The wires:

Coming out of the wall through the switch socket are two big, white wires.

Coming out of each white wire there is:

A red wire

A black wire

A green and yellow wire

The two green and white wires have been twisted together.

The switch plate:

On the front on the switch plate, there are two switches. One will be for the ceiling light, and one will be for the wall light.

On the back of the switch plate, there are two vertical, rectangular boxes.

Each of these boxes has three terminals. One at the top, and two at the bottom.

On each box, the terminal at the top is called "L"

On each box, the terminals at the bottom are called "L1" and "L2"



So ...

Can anyone tell me how to wire the switches with as little pain from electrocution as possible?

Red into L and black into L1...if the switch is working backwards try L2.Green and yellow into the earth terminal.

Okay, so is that ...

Red from (white wire number 1) into L on the left hand block.

Black from (white wire number 1) into L1 on the left hand block.

It's very simple.

If it goes BANG ! then you have it wrong and need to have another go.

If you go "Ohhh arhhhh $%"$%^%&^" !!!!" then you have it wrong and need to have another go.

If the lights switch on then you have it right and can go have a cup of tea and a biscuit.
