In Favour Of Dashboard Cams
Good job this driver had a dashcam, otherwise he would have had no evidence of the youths' stupidity, and could have been accused of dangerous driving.

Stupid kid probably played chicken with a few cars first that could stop or swerve on a sixpence. He just found out the hard way how difficult it is to stop a wagon in an emergency. I reckon it is only a matter of time before cameras are fitted as standard to all new vehicles, and also record data so you know what lights and indicators were on at the time, speed, rate of...

That's one of the reasons I got mine - group of teenagers chatting at a bus stop when one suddenly ran out in front of me. Fortunately I stopped without hitting him but it could have been a problem as we were in Germany at the time. I always have mine displaying my speed as well - it would have proved I was below the limit had I hit him.
bhg - I had similar experience - teenager ran out from behind stationery bus right into my path. She was fortunate to only suffer bruising and 24 hours observation in hospital (thanks to my driving well under the limit, being totally alcohol-free, and having top condition reflexes and brakes - this was years ago, before dashcams, breathalysers, air bags, seat belts etc).
Not being an Expert on such matters, I would imagine that the flat front of the truck would have scooped up the kid and pushed him along the road, coupled together with the fact that the kid changes his mind and tries to turn back for the verge and away from the truck AND the reactions of the Driver have saved his life, rather than get dragged under the Vehicle and along the Road. If he'd been hit by a car then you would have been looking at a very different outcome.
It's worrying to think what goes through the mind of a bored child during half-term week, that they think that this would be a "Laugh." Personally, I'd take this footage into all the local Schools in that area, on Monday morning as part of a special Assembly, and make all the kids watch it, to demonstrate how stupid all those in the video have been.
