removing ford ka wing mirror

Some toerag has snapped the plastic bit inside the arm of my left mirror. I don't want to pay �80 to have it replaced at a ford garage, but after much wrestling with it I can't get the mirror off! Does anyone know how to remove it? Especially the huge bolt thing inside the inner door plastic cover.
