How much scrap value would I get for a "y" reg yaris with a few months MOT left but the mans …something has gone on the exhaust and this with other many but minor details need attention it is not worth repairing.
I have been offered £50 by the mechanics friend but have no idea of its worth. Is this a fair price?
I scrapped my 52 Ford KA last year. It was dead as a dodo and I was given £231 for it. It failed it's MOT and really wasn't worth fixing. They came and picked it up and transferred the money within a few days.
Thank you. If I phone scrap dealers do they play the game of offering so much over the phone then reducing it when the car is seen?
I have nothing to hide but haven't the time to play games.
There is a web site ( which I can't remember at the moment ) that I used
to get rid of a G reg Escort. You put in your location, if the car has an MOT etc
and they will give you the best price. I got over £300 and it didn't even run. The
man had to tow it off the drive on to the back of a truck ( very sad - I loved that car )
Why not stick it on eBay? You never know, some amateur mechanic may decide it's worth fixing up. Be honest about the known faults, only accept cash and insist that the buyer must collect.
a brand new exhaust can be anything from 40 to a couple of hundred quid, I would look at fixing it, MOT'ing it then selling it. scrapping it for and exhaust and minor faults doesnt seem worth it, people are always looking for cheap runabouts
Look in your local paper for adverts. £50 is way too low. £200 to £300 is the range offered by scrap merchants near me. For that they come and collect the car and pay cash. Most also take care of the paperwork with the DVLA as well.
Just for future reference.
I was informed scrap value is done by weight and last week a yaris was worth £70 because it is a small light car. Put it on auction site and got £270.00.
