I know one members "Strong view's" but other members views on the Diesel Engine cars, I read they are getting some stick again about health.

maybe we should go back to the slower pace in life and uses horse drawn everything again, then the "GREENS" can use all the thousands of ton of horse *** for there evergreen gardens and hopefully bury themselves in it too.

Late model diesel engines pump out less pollutants than petrol powered vehicles.
Especially when the energy used during the refinement process is taken into account.
Also the better "miles per gallon".

I agree oz. Progress with the refinement of diesel engines has come a long way, as has refinements to the diesel itself.

Give me diesel any day. It was no error that Buses and Trucks were diesel powered.The engines last for ever.
When VEL's were displayed you could see what rate of tax a vehicle was charged.
My mem sahibs Skoda Greenline( diesel) is zero rated for excise and Congestion charge. My hefty 2.5 diesel UTE pays less VEL than it's petrol counterparts.
Diesel engines are far more refined what with particulate filters,special lubricants and far more refined fuel than it used to be. No worries with a diesel in my opinion.Far better economy for the motorist in the long run and no more unhealthy, for anyone else , than petrol.

Still reckon modern diesels are less polluting than petrol.
And the energy/pollution used and created during the refinement process needs to be taken into account.

The rise of diesels was because the government put too much emphasis on CO2 emissions alone. Pollution is about much more than CO2.

Diesels pump out far too much micro particulate, and nitrous oxide among other things. Horrible smelly things.

I drive diesels for a living, but would never have an oil burning car.

(Mind you I said I would never have a mobile phone or do internet banking once)

New, clean, well maintained, diesels are (just about) OK - unfortunately people don't look after them properly and they quickly become inefficient and fill the air with particulates.

They should be banned for cars and subject to extremely rigorous enforcement of emission inspection for heavy vehicles.

Buying a diesel car now would be an act of folly, given that (at long last) they are being properly regulated.

Hop, the engine needs the derv to run & has no other option than to use it, the petroleum company's produce the fuel, so it's up to them to produce cleaner fuel.

Sunny, Diesel gives out more MPG, thus using less fuel, in my opinion if the Fuel Filters/ P.F.F. are serviced when they should, the Derv Injectors changed when needed, the Derv Engine is more Energy Superior.

The same can be said for a petrol engine.If you don't maintain it it will chuck out pollutants. old engine worn piston rings,burning oil etc.
There is less wear on diesel engines.Higher compression(ignition) and lower revving.
Later diesels are fitted with extra DPF's and cats and are highly regulated when checked at a MOT test.As previously stated the derv is far more refined than it once was.

2 out of our 3 motors are diesel, the Yeti and the Beemer, the other one is a VRS Estate, I upgraded that a couple of weeks ago to a '64 plate model with DSG Box, and Petrol Engine, mainly because the Diesel can't match the performance of that model.

If someone has a diesel powered vehicle with a DPF in the exhaust system and does not maintain their vehicle the vehicle will not run within a short period of time.
Who spends money on a late model vehicle then disregards maintenance.
(OK, there probably are some idiots that fit this category).

1ozzy, although Illegal here there is a practice that the D.P.F If trouble given get's removed, replace with a straight through pipe, but that does not go when the car is ready for the annual MOT.
