Is it just me or is it really really annoying when people are horrified to learn that you can't/don't drive??

I had lessons when I was 17 - at the insistance of my parents but gave them up as i was useless at it(no co-ordination, no patience...) and at 25, I still can't drive.  Why do some people think life isn't worth living unless you can drive?  I understand for many people that cars are invaluable to them but I have absolutley no desire to own a car or learn to drive.  I manage just fine with buses, trains and legs but try telling other people this!  They look at me like I'm mad! And don't get me started on the cost of running a car! My husband is currenty being towed home after the clutch on his car ******** up completely - he only had the clutch repaired in February and has barely used the car since May as he hasn't been driving to uni.

Do any other non-drivers feel the same?

Its all down to choice. To drive or not to drive but its interesting that you posted  this message to non-drivers on a motoring forum. Or am I missing the point here??????

Thanks but yes I do think you're missing the point!

i could never cope without a car-its a higher state of mobilized evolution, bikes, walking, public transport are for the dark ages(!)
i am cheating because my repair costs are minimal as my brother is a mechanic-its the b****** insurance companies that p*** me off
but at least you realize your limitations on the road - i just wish some of the(idiotic dangerous) car drivers also realized this and got off the roads and made them safer
Hi there, yes it infuriates me. I am a female and have been learning to drive on and off for five years. Every time I am near the test I give up, not because I can't do it, because I've not got the damn motivation. Where I live is very central for everything, mother and grown up daughter live 5 minutes walk away, work is 15 minutes walk and I love to walk to work in the mornings for the exercise and then there is parking there. I think there are a lot of nutters on the road, would not take the car into town as you can't park, public transport where I live is great, bus stops right outside my door with all the buses to town, have a train station which takes me to the coast if I want to go 10 minutes walk from my house. Tesco is 5 minutes from home and if I have a lot of shopping take a cab which is 2.50 or I shop on-line or hubby takes me at the weekend with his car. Only him and myself at home so not LOADS of shopping and eat out a lot. If going out for day or weekend, he takes his car. Then there as mentioned, cost of having a car, repairing it, insuring it, could get a mortgage for a better home for price if wanted. If I go out at weekend which is most weekends for a drink with friends, wouldn't take car, so apart from that having no motivation, making self sick every lesson as hate it, having a car sitting in driveway that hubby got to encourage me and I've not put a foot in it but paying 200 per month and also insuring it, why am I bothering to learn. I lhate the lessons, if I know I have a lesson that week am in a mood all week at thought of it, affecting my life hanging over me and is starting to depressed me terribly now . . really, why don't i just bloody throw in towel.
