Car Smelling Of Cigarette Smoke
Hello ABs. I am looking for your expertise. I have just changed my car and my new car(used) smells of cigarette smoke. Obviously the previous owner was a smoker. I have left the windows down for long periods but this hasn't helped. The odour must be held in the fabric covering the seats. Any ideas how I can get rid of the smell?

I find it excellent on all kinds of smells. You can only use it on wettable surfaces though

Whatever you do, do not use milk that is a very silly option to make, it stinks & if in hot weather will make you sick, get the Valet Comp to Steam the Internal of the car, then ask them to use Industrial Car Freshener, this is a problem with buying a car from a Smoker ( I am not knocking smokers by the way, I've been there) as said regards the seller advertiser saying "Non Smoker" this can de-value the car in a sale, I bought a 206 from a person that had a Dog & a smoker, I have steamed / valeted the car a few times & it's still present.
Some years ago I bought myself one of these.. http:// tinyurl .com/ok r3ely
with the sole intention of valeting cars, especially taxis. Most drivers wanted to get rid of smell of smoke from their cabs. All the upholstery and head lining was cleaned using detergent. The doors and windows were left open for a few hours to help drying.
When you clean a car properly with the right equipment the smell should disappear.
Not saying you should spend £1000 ... but why not hire a Rug Doctor for a day. They are readily available from DIY stores etc ... while you have it on hire why not do your carpets throughout your house.

A couple of simple suggestions: use fabric freshener on the seat, scrub all other surfaces with a good industrial strength cleaner. Place a halved lemon or ground coffee (in an open pot) around the inside corners of the car. And add those dangly things in the shape of a tree. Febreeze sell car odour eliminators.
Once again ABs have not let me down. Some very helpful excellent suggestions that are certainly worth trying and I will. My first "attack" will be the local valet firm who are well thought of. After that I will consider other options. The noticeable overriding theme of the responses is the fact that my smell is here to stay!!! Thanks again to all responders.
No offence intended JJ, I have valeted car's that's had milk spilt on them & it's one of the worst smelling fluids going especially when the weather warms, in some case's it goes through the very thin carpet & onto the shell of the car, this mean's "If the owner wants to pay" the full removal of the carpet due to the fluid going into the channels for the seat bases & the likes, again, no offence meant by my reply.
