Pls Can Some Kind Soul Help
I am 77 years young and never had to deal with anything like this before hubby RIP always did it.
I have personal plates on my 13 year old Picasso I have P/X the car for a 2 year old Citreon C1 but cannot collect for another 2 weeks.
On Line I have de registered the personal plate and today they have sent me a new reg number for the Picasso and I am retaining the plates for the C1.
I realise I have to tax and insure the Picasso for the remaining 2 weeks, I think I must phone the insurance and get a cover note and then go and tax , in the meantime go and get plates made up, whilst I am doing this can I use the Picasso with the personal plates still on or should I leave the car outside until the cover note arrives I am about to ring them this morning.
How do I go about all this I feel it quite complicated for me to comprehend, help appreciated.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I would not drive it as you have de-registered the Picasso. The police drive data recognition cars nowadays and if they scanned you driving the Picasso and checked the registration No (Personal Plate) it would not recognise any longer that number belonging to that car and you could be summoned for failing to display an Index Plate.
Hi Dee you can now tax a vehicle on line for a month.I believe You cannot now reclaim tax back when a vehicle is sold. I may be wrong on that.If you go online to do it you may find that your MOT document is not recognised for the new registration no. As soon as you have spoken with your ins company and they have confirmed verbally with you your insurance is valid. The gov sites are pretty easy to navigate, and don't forget you do not now get a paper tax disc.. Media URL: https://www.gov.uk/venicle-tax

thanks to all, I can go and get the new plates made up to put on Picasso, I can get a cover note for the insurance and have the log book but what about the MOT ? which is due next month that's on the personal number and it wont pass that's why I am selling, I don't think I can tax without it !
I have phoned DVLA ON 03007906802 but its all press buttons and you cant actually speak to anyone, never thought it was going to be this complicated.

Thanks so much for all your help guys, don't like the DVLA help line because there is no one there to actually talk to, its all recorded messages no matter which buttons you press & at premium rate. My car insurers More Than were much more helpful and told me what to do, they electronically changed the insurance to the new number plates the DVLA had given me, told me to go & get the plates made up take ID and the DVLA letter, did that, then went on to DVLA car tax renewal which states my car is covered until 1 st Sept but Mot which is automatically transferred with the car is up on 1 st August, didn't trust that so tried to do it again by phone and that said exactly the same so I am covered to drive, even though it cost me £80 to deregister the personal plates !
one last question guys how many days grace do you get on the MOT ?
thank you

Just a minor correction to what you've written:
0300 numbers cost no more than a regular 'national rate' call. (i.e. you'll pay no more than if you used a normal Swansea number to call DVLA). Further, if you're with any calling plan that gives you free calls to 01 and 02 numbers, 03 numbers will also be free:

>>>how many days grace do you get on the MOT ?
None. However it's not illegal to own a car without a valid MOT certificate. It only becomes illegal if you actually drive it on a public road (other than to a pre-booked MOT test, which is still permissible).
