My left arm on top of it being "sick" is sick to death of lifting and lifting and putting down the brake. Instead of going for a run of a long kind - you are being stopped every few minutes with water works, phoenix gas, crossings (necessarily of course), pedestrians taking chances with you, new pipes being put in.

I started a journey to CU on Monday at 6.24pm which should take about 5-10 minutes - I didn't get in until 7.10pm - I am never late for CU and it is all to do with these roadworks. Fed up with them. Oh forgot "diversions".

You need one of those wonderful electric brakes JJ. When you stop you touch a button to put the brake on; when you set off it takes itself off - simple and effortless. Some people find a reason to not like them; I really can't see what's not to like.

Thought about flying lessons?
It must be so difficult if you have always been a driver, but you have to decide - could you manage without the car for whatever trips you do?
get an automatic!
retrocop lol! ;-)
Do people really apply the handbrake at every stop? Why not just put your foot on the brake, take it out of gear if you want. Yes, get an automatic, they're brilliant.
maybe jenny like doing handbrake turns on the way to the CU?
not thought of that :-)
I was looking at the more general question regarding roadworks and diversions making journeys longer than they needed to be , agree an automatic would be kinder to you physically.

I will tell you that I am definitely using my handbrakes more and more often. My neighbour just telling me like willy nilly - her daughter lives in a very downward street and left off the handbrake some time ago - the car rolled down the street and crashed into a wall - sure it could have been a house or a person definitely more serious. - Jaysus - now I am handbrake mad. Yes I heard about the button ones my friend's son has one - sorry - I will be raking this wee car to the ground - no more new or old cars. No mon no fun. Some of these fine days me and Maxie will get onto the highway and do a good distance - even my sista who cannot drive - she cannot believe how many there are and also how many "near misses" we have all had.
handbrake, what's that? get an auto, drive with one foot.

^^^ how many cars there are

some day the road works will all be done - probably not in my day tho LOL
Jennyjoan, that's given me another idea, you say you need a break - why not check out some dog friendly B&B/Hotels around your area and you and Maxie hit the road for a short break.

Saves faffing over to London and fretting about kennels.
Question Author
mamy have done all that but I would like a friend to come with me and at the moment most of them are involved either with work or classes.
Jump on my back ;)

I only wanted to to go London to see gypsy rose lee with Imelda Staunton - that's was my main interest. Maybe Imelda might let Maxie onto the stage with her like Judy Garland and her wee dog LOL
That would be good.
